Resorts normally provides a shared room for around 5000-15,000JPY ($55.00-$160.00) per month. Accommodation is normally either onsite or offsite. Offsite accommodation may mean a local bus or the resort will pick you up and transport you back to your accommodation.
You will normally also receive subsidised meals at the employee canteen for only 300 yen per meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner) or you will receive a payment towards your meals if no staff food options are available.
Resorts will provide free seasonal lift passes and some may be able to offer use of equipment (normally larger hotels).
Depending on the resort location you will be locarted very close, or in the town, or you should expect the closest town to be 10-20 minutes by bus.
Be prepared that staff accommodation is often basic and traditional - sleeping on a 'futon' or mattress on the floor, or sleeping on a bunk. Staff accommodation is basic and you will share a kitchen, bathroom and living space with others..At the start of the season WIFI may not be available until a few weeks after you arrive.
The winter season normally runs from late November to April - you will need to commit to a minimum of 3 months employment. Work is normally full time - (5 days per week x 8 hours) although during high season some overtime is common. You should expect you will work both evenings and weekends.
Positions we place in include Receptionist/Front Desk, Wait staff, Kitchen hands, room service, housekeeping, childcare andskiing/snowboarding instructors.
While no Japanese is needed, a basic level of Japanese (high school or beginners courses are fine) will open your application to more employment opportunities. You can expect a monthly wage of around 160,000 yen. Chinese speaking staff are in high demand in some resorts so please note if you have either Mandarin or Cantonese language skills.
