AIFS Au Pair was modelled from AIFS’ original Au Pair in America program - the first legal Au pair program, designated by the U.S. Government under the J1 visa.

Since 1986 AIFS has placed over 110,000 Au pairs with families around the globe and facilitates cultural exchanges across a broad range of destinations for up to 55,000 people every year.
What is an Au Pair?
AIFS Au pairs come to Australia to use and enhance their childcare experience within a cultural exchange framework. AIFS Au Pairs come from 16+ countries around the globe although our top sending countries are Germany, France, Netherlands, Japan, UK and USA.

AIFS Au Pair provide your family with childcare in return for room, board and pocket money, and importantly the opportunity to expeirence life living with an Australian family.

AIFS families are located in all states and territories of Australia, and can be based in the city/suburbs, regional towns or more remote locations. Families come in all shapes and sizes so our matching service will endevour to find candidates that best fit your requirements.
The Basics
An international Au pair is placed with your family for a minimum of 6 months to provide childcare, experience Australian life and share their culture with you.
Au pairs provide childcare and help with related duties for up to 35 hours per week.
In return Au pairs receive full board & pocket money and a cultural exchange with your family.
Safety is our number one
Each Au Pair must...

Possess a minimum of 200 hours referenced childcare. (Many have 1000+)

Meet AIFS' child protection and safeguarding screening guidelines. Our child protection and safeguarding framework is in place for every step of the program.

Complete a one-on-one interview (an interview report is available for you to view).

Complete an application with detailed information about their childcare experience including photos and a video.

Provide a medical and police check and 2 references which are verified by our team.

Before heading to their family, every Au pair must attend a 2-day orientation at AIFS' centre in Sydney. This orientation will include first aid training, and sessions that will help the Au pair to prepare for their placement.
